How to play

Place one letter per turn on the grid. Every valid word your letter completes scores, in all eight directions: across, down, both diagonals, and backwards. Finish several words with a single tile and they chain into a combo for bonus points.

Common questions

How does scoring work?

In Classic mode every letter is worth one point, so a word scores its length and the real points come from longer words and combos. In Weighted mode each letter has a Scrabble-style value, so rarer letters are worth more.

What is the daily puzzle?

One handpicked board each day, the same for everyone. You get a set of moves to score as high as you can, and a streak for playing day after day. It runs fully offline.

How do I play with friends?

Choose online multiplayer, then share the four-letter room code. Two to four players take turns on the same board, live. You can also pass one device around in Pass & Play.

Does it cost anything?

No. Letterphile is free to play and needs no account.

Is my data private?

Yes. We collect nothing that identifies you. See the privacy policy for the details.
